Information for general Practitioners

Overview of Child Health Teams and associated resources, in Lambeth and Southwark

  • Each Primary Care Network (PCN) in Lambeth and Neighbourhood in Southwark has a dedicated Child Health Team.
  • Child Health Teams include a Children and Young People (CYP)  GP lead, a named general paediatrician (from Evelina London Children's Hospital or King's College Hospital), and a specialist children's nurse.
  • Triage meetings are held weekly to review referrals, and in most areas the paediatrician will hold a monthly clinic in a GP surgery.  If you'd like to attend a triage or clinic, check the CHILDS Framework calendar for available meetings.

You can add the CHILDS Framework calendar by clicking this link

Referral Process for the weekly triage meeting

  • When referring to the child health team, use the new Ardens EMIS template - SEL Child Health GP Triage Request (search for 'SEL Child Health' in template picker). Please also add the patient to the EMIS  triage list for your neighbourhood or PCN. See below for GP referral guidelines.
  • The child health team provides advice and guidance, refers patients to specialist clinics or nursing services, or books them into monthly in-reach clinics.
  • If you wish for the child to be seen by the patch paediatrician, you need to indicate this in the EMIS GP referral. Please note this might increase number of children referred to the in-reach clinic, leading to longer waiting times.

Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Meetings

  • Your PCN/neighbourhood may have regular MDTs which include case discussion, provide CYP-specific training, and offer education to primary care staff. Staff are encouraged to attend these meetings, with invites posted in the CHILDS Framework calendar or circulated by the CYP GP lead.
